説明

The Experimental method: The experiment was conducted in 1948 and 1949 by the Period System, ten days as one period.
In 1948 four goats were used for ten periods, and in 1949 three goats for three periods.
The tested feed stuff used in 1948 was "Shinko" feeds which are composed of the wild grass hay 5%, soybean pod 20%, sweet potato vine 5%, broad bean pod 10%, weed 10%, "Kuzu" leaf and vine 20%, and straw 30%, containing 4.52% digestible protein and starch value 25.85%.
The control feed used, was the mixed feed supplied by "Japan Feed and Co. LTD", being the mixture of 50% bran, 50% corn husk containing 8.4% digestible protein and starch value 54.5%.
The tested "Shinko" feeds used in 1949 was the following mixtures: wheat bran 30%, fat flee rice bran 30%, barley husk 20%, and bamboo-grass leaf 20%, containing 7.38% digestible protein and 47.32% starch value.
The control feed used was the mixture of 40% wheat bran supplied by "J. F. Co. LTD." and 60% barley grain cropped from the University Farm. The mixture contained 9.32% digestible protein and its starch value was 59.54%.
The amount of feeds given per head daily in 1948 and 1949, was concentrate as will be seen by following table and plentiful quantity of wild grass cellected at the University Farm and 1015g salt. The water was supplied freely by the water trough.
Table I Concentrate used in 1948
II Concentrated feeds used in 1949
Care was taken to maintain the constant nutritive condition as much as possible during the experimental period.
The result of experiment: During the experiments in 1948, the goat milk yield of the Period tested with "Shinko" feed proved 9.5% lass than that of the period fed with control ration, inopite of the experiments by replacing 600-800g sut of 1200g "Shoinko" feed per head per day with the same quantity of the mixed feed, or adding 400-800g potato tubers per head per day to the replaced ration.
In 1949, the average milk yield for the whole period of tested feeds was 35, 120g against 35, 0 70g for the control feeds, being only 50g or 0.14 per cent greater than that of the control. It seems to indicate that "Shinko" feed holds nearly the same feeding value of the wheat bran.
As regards the fat contents of the milk, the average fat contents of the test goats was 3.52 per cent, whereas that of the control was 3.36 per cent.
The average specific gravity of the milk of the test goats was 1.0305, against 1.0306 of the control showing that the "Shinko" feeds have no influence on the specific gravity of the milk.
