説明

Digestion, nitrogen balance and respiration trials were conducted, using wethe sheep, to estimate the magnitude of decline in nutritive value and loss of nutrients of grass silage by aerobic deterioration. The sheep were fed grass silages which were stacked in the open air after being removed from a silo for 0 (control), 3 (3D-), 5 (5D-) and 7 days (7D-silage) in Experiment 1, and for 0 (control) and 9 days (9D-silage) in Experiment 2. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1) As days of exposure to air increased, the digestibilities of crude protein, NFE and energy decreased, while those of crude fiber, ADF and NDF increased. There were significant (P<0.05 or <0.01) differences in these values, between 7D-silage and control silage. 2) The sheep fed on 7D-silage had greater (P<0.01) nitrogen losses in their feces, resulting in a lower (P< 0.05) nitrogen retention when compared with those fed on control silage. 3) The nutrient content of the silage decreased with increasing aerobic deterioration. The DCP and DE contents of 7D-silage were lower by 8 and 7% than those of control silage, respectively. The DE, ME and NEm contents of 9D-silage were lower by 4, 8 and 11% than those of control, respectively. 4) The silage lost 7% DM, 14% DCP and 13% DE during the 7-day aerobic exposure period and 9% DM, 13% DE, 16% ME and 19% NEm during the 9-day period.
