Experiments were conducted to obtain preliminary knowlege toward evaluating chemical and nutritive characteristics of cattle feces as feeds with the feed analysis, based on fractionation into a cellular contents fraction (CC) and cell wall fraction (CW). Cattle feces samples were two of feces from breeding cows fed high roughage diet and two of feces from fattening sters fed a high concentrate diet. The CW content determined by the neutral detergent (ND) method was lower than that determined by enzymatic method involving digestion with the enzyme, pronase. ND treatment removed nitrogenous materials, lignin and ash from feces samples more than did pronase treatment. Digestibility of dry matter in cattle feces samples determined by in vitro method where incubation with rumen microorganisms were carried out after ND treatment was much higher than that determined by in vitro method where incubations with rumen microorganisms were carried out after enzymatic treatment. The result of the in vitro trial suggested that ND treatment removed cell wall materials that could not be digested by rumen microorganisms more than pronase tveatment. It was considered that the enzymatic method was more suitable for the fractionation into CC and CW than the ND method in the case of evaluating chenical and nutritive characteristics of cattle feces as feeds.
