説明

The seasonal and the diurnal activities and other tendencies in biting insects on sprayed or nori-sprayed steer were investigated.
Biting insects attacking the steers sprayed with a repellent which contains 0. 8 per cent of pyrethrin, 2 per cent of MGK R-326 and 8 per cent MGK-264 and non-sprayed steers were collected on June 17, July 20, August 21, September 23 and October 26. The collection was made for five minutes at the intervals of two hours from 4:00 to 18:00.
As the result, it was made clear that the seasonal and diurnal activities of the biting insect showed almost the same tendencies in, both sprayed and non-sprayed steers, but the abundance was much lower in the sprayed steers. The abundance of Tabanidae collected during the work from sprayed steer was 30.7 per cent of that of non-sprayed steer, Muscidae 48. 3 per cent, Culicidae 27.3 per cent and Simuliidae 28.9 per cent in the case of 12 months old steer.
But in some species of Tabanidae such as Tabanus chrysurus, T. sapporoenus, and T. humilis, the abundances on the sprayed and the non-sprayed steers respectively were not different from each other statistically. Whether this phenomenon is related to the species specificity in the sensitivity to a repellent or spraying method of a repellent is left unsolved.
