Measurement records at twelve different body parts of the three native horses, Yonaguni, Miyako and Aguni horses in Okinawa prefecture, were studied by a principal component analysis. The same analysis was applied also for the three types of Miyako improved horses. The results were summarized as follows: 1) For the native horses in Okinawa prefecture, the first principal component was a size factor contrasting large or small body frame, and the second component was a shape factor contrasting long or short body and narrow or broad ribs. 2) The Miyako and Aguni horses were observed to have larger body frame, longer body and narrower ribs than the Yonaguni horses. 3) For Miyako improved horses, the first principal component was size factor, and the second component was the shape factor contrasting good or poor hind quarter. 4) Miyako improved horses were getting large body frame as the progress of improvement. The hind quarter was getting better in mares and getting poorer in stallions, indicating that the sexual difference in body shape was widened as the progress of improvement.
