Concentrations of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α)were determined by radioimmunoassay procedures for bull and boar seminal plasma. The relationship between the PGF2α concentrations in seminal plasma and other properties of semen was also studied. Semen was collected by means of artificial vagina from 27 Holstein, 3 Japanese Black and 4 Japanese Shorthorn bulls (1 to 18 years old), and from 11 Landrace, 4 Large White, 1 Durock and 1 Hampshire boars (1 to 3 years old). The PGF2α concentrations in seminal plasma of 34 bulls were in a rangeof 0.08-1.37ng/ml with a mean of 0.79ng/ml, while those in seminal plasma of 17 boars were in a range of 0.06-1.44ng/ml with a mean of 0.58ng/ml. Breed and age differences in the PGF2αconcentrations were obscure in both animals. No significant correlations were found between PGF2α concentrations in seminal plasma and other parameters such as volume of semen, number of spermatozoa, motility of spermatozoa and acrosomal abnormality.
