Description
In this study, we determined hypervariable sequence of mitochondrial DNA D-loop region of Bangladeshi and Philippines native goats. The mitochondrial genetic diversity was estimated using obtained sequences, and then the origins of predominance mitochondrial lineage A and B in Southeast Asia were investigated. The analyses of 53 Bangladesh and 30 Philippines goats revealed 25 and 5 haplotypes, respectively. The nucleotide diversities of Bangladeshi and Philippines goats in haplogroup B were extremely low (0.0009 and 0.0006). We also investigated the non-parametric correlation between geographical distance from domestication center (Middle East) and genetic diversity in Asian goats from 13 countries. Significant negative correlation was observed in Lineage A (p=0.0469). On the other hand, there was no significant correlation in lineage B (p=0.7782). The results suggested that Middle East may be the most probable domestication center for the lineage A but the center of lineage B was unclear.
