Abstract
Sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) is one of the excellent indicators for estimating the effects of environmental mutagens because of their high sensitivity to various chemical and physical agents. The SCEs in mitotic chromosomes of domestic animals have been studied on several species, such as cattle, goat, pig and sheep. The present study investigated the spontaneous rates of the SCEs in mitotic chromosomes of two breeds of horses. The estimated mean frequencies for the Perchron and Breton were 5.43±2.24 and 5.62±2.45, respectively. There was no significant difference in the spontaneous rates of SCEs per cell between both breeds.
