Abstract

Daily ultrasonic monitoring was conducted to examine the dynamics of bovine follicular development categorized into three by their diameter (large: _??_10mm, middle: _??_5mm and⟨10mm, small: _??_2mm and ⟨5mm) during early pregnant dairy cows. Three dairy cows(73.3±34.5months age, 608.0±34.2kg weight, 22.6±7.4kg/day milk produotion)were used in this study. Cows were observed daily during 45 days. All cows consisted of five waves of middle size follicles with only one large follicle (dominant follicle: DF). The number of middle size follicles tended to decrease with the emergence of DF, and new wave of middle size follicles emerged concomitantly with either the regression of a DF. Until 25 days of pregnancy, the pattern of the growth and regression of middle size follicles was similar to that of the estrous cycle, but after that the wave of middle size follicles became smaller. During 45 days pregnancy, 4/15(27%) of the DF appered in the ovaries ispilateral to the corpus luteum (CL), and 11/15 (73%) of DF in the ovaries contralateral to the CL.
