Abstract
Electron capture detector (ECD) with radioactive source has been commonly used with gas chromatography (GC) for the sensitive analyses of organohalogen pesticides within severely restricted placement. On the other hands, for easy use, non-RI type ECD has appeared in this field. In this paper, the sensitivities and durabilities of these two types of ECD's were compared for determination limits on 40 kinds of organochlorine pesticides. The non-RI type ECD was 1 to 20 times more sensitive than that RI type. Sensitivity of non-RI type ECD was found to decline with use to one third or one fourth after nine months. However, the declined sensitivity of non-RI type ECD was demonstrated to be still as sensitive as the RI type ECD. From these result, it is suggested that non-RI type ECD can also be applied to sensitive analyses of organohalogen pesticides.
