Description

Simultaneous impression taking in the upper and lower jaws in patients with edentulous jaw is an epoch-making method in which the determination of the external form of the biteplate by impression taking of the entire oral structure, determination of occlusal vertical dimension by the biteplate, determination of the jaw position by the Gothic arch, and face-bow transfer that decides the facial median reference plane are simultaneously performed.
This method is also useful in patients without established occlusal position (Eichner's Classification C) such as those with either edentulous upper or lower jaw, a few residual teeth, and nonopposing occlusion.
We applied simultaneous impression taking in the upper and lower jaws to resilient telescope dentures and obtained good results. The usefulness of this method is reported.
