Abstract

For the purpose of thermal improvement in winter and saving firewood, an indoor thermal simulation was conducted in a traditional house in a mountain area of Nepal. The results are as follows: 1) The predicted mean indoor air temperature was -0.3 to 1.3K higher than the measured value. The 'Root Mean Square Error' of the measured and predicted indoor air temperature was 1.0 to 1.8K. The results show that the indoor air temperature is well predicted by the 'Base-Model'. 2) When firewood consumption is reduced by 60% in the 'Integrated-Improved-Model', nighttime indoor air temperature was 1.0 to 4.0K higher than the 'Base-Model'. This shows that the closing of openings to make the building airtight, and insulation of the roof are highly effective for thermal improvement and saving firewood.
