Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of alterations in writing systems on online users. Though writing systems on the web are many and various, this paper limits the discussion to "user registration" and "reply" functions. "User registration" function is the mechanism that a user can write messages only after the user registers oneself on the web site. "Reply" function is the mechanism that users answer the message written by a user. This paper discusses the effect of "user registration" and "reply" functions on the number and the content of writing. The results of this survey show the following. If there is no "user registration" functions, the number of writing do not increase and disturbances slightly appear. But the ratio of Radical Access Member (RAM) rises. If there is no "reply" functions, the number of writing do not increase and the ratio of RAM falls. Furthermore, topics are not deeply argued and are often switched.
