Comparative studies on N, N-dimethylaniline N-demethylation activity, aniline hydroxylation activity and content of cytochrome P-450 were carried out in several animals.
The N, N-dimethylaniline N-demethylation activity increased in the following order: rat liver >guinea pig liver>pigeon liver≥bull frog liver≥edible frog liver>adult cockroach fat body> carp liver>adult honey bee abdomen>whole body of rice stem borer larva. However, the enzyme activity was not detected in mid gut of adult cockroach, head, thorax and abdomen of adult housefly, head and thorax of adult honey bee and fat body and mid gut of silk worm larva. The aniline hydroxylation activity on the liver of vertebrates was much higher than those of bull and edible frogs, but the enzyme activity was not found in various organs of insects except in the fat body of cockroach. It was shown that the content of cytochrome P-450 was higher in the liver of vertebrates except for pigeon and carp, and in eneral, its content in various organs of insect was lower.
It is not expected that the correlation exists between the content of cytocrome P-450 and the oxidative activity of microsome, namely the oxidation activities with two substrates, N, N-dimethylaniline and aniline, in several living organisms. It may be considered that a lack of the correlation is due to the presence of natural inhibitors, substrate specificity of the oxidase and stability of the cytochrome P-450.
