Description

The metabolic fate of naproanilide was studied by using a 14C-labelled compound in a rice paddy model ecosystem in the laboratory. Seven metabolites, 2-(2-naphthoxy)propionic acid, methyl-2-(2-naphthoxy)propionate, 2-naphthol, 2, 3-naphthalenediol, 2, 6-naphthalenediol, 2, 7-naphthalenediol, 2-hydroxy-1, 4-naphthoquinone were identified and two unknown compounds were detected. In a 23-day experiment, 78.1, 7.8 and 1.5% of the total radioactivity were found in the sand, water and biota, respectively. The ecological magnification (EM) values were much smaller and the biodegradability indices (BI) values were much greater than those of persistent chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides for these biota. Naproanilide seems to be degradable from an evironmental standpoint.
