Penetration, absorption and translocation of CME-134 were examined in last instar larvae of Mamestra brassicae using the radio-labeled CME-134 (14C-CME-134). After topical application of 100ng of 14C-CME-134 (LD100) to newly molted last instar larvae, about 30% and 50% of applied dose were found to penetrate the cuticle within 2 and 24hr respectively. Before pupation, 85% of applied dose penetrated the cuticle and 75% of the penetrated dose was excreted into the feces. The amount of radioactivity incorporated into the integuments reached a maximal level of 20ng equivalent in 4-6hr after application and level of 10ng equivalent remained almost constantly in the integuments until pupation. Newly molted last instar larvae were fed on a diet containing 1ppm of 14C-CME-134 on the first 1 day and a normal diet thereafter. Dietary intake of the insecticide was 360ng, 30% of which was directly excreted into the feces. Radioactivity reached a maximal level of 100ng equivalent in the integuments 24hr after feeding, then decreased to a constant level of 10ng equivalent and remained at that level until pupation. When 200ng of 14C-CME-134 was injected into the haemocoel, radioactivity in the integuments rapidly reached a maximum level 1hr after injection and decreased to a constant level of 10ng equivalent thereafter.
