抄録

When Cr2O3 powder compacts were heated in an atmosphere of air, they shrinked barely, since their sintering occurred by evaporation-condensation mechanism. However, extensive grain growth was observed by scanning electron microscopy in highly porous Cr2O3 compacts, even at density 30% of theoretical. The grain growth began above 1000°C and increased greatly above 1300°C. During the growth, the grains appeared initially to be spherical in shape and finally to be euhedral. The former was smaller than 1μm and the latter was larger than 2μm. The compacts or the powders composed of the grains being smaller than 1μm and larger than 2μm were green and black, respectively.
