Description
The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between the image coding ratio and image quality in image coding algorithm of JPEG. Two parameters use d in JPEG, which are called a scan parameter and a scaling factor, exert influence on image coding ratio and image quality. In this study, many experiments using satellite data were carried out to determine the range of appropriate value on these parameters for improving the efficiency of the data compression and streching with image quality preserved. Furthermore, the algorithm combined JPEG with RGS method was proposed to correct image quality for the compressed data. There are many studies for preserving image quality, but few sutudies for improving image quality in the process of the image compression and streching.Judging from the image compression ratio, it was found that RGS method is less useful as the pre-processing than as the post-processing for JPEG algorithm.
