Description

Verruciform xanthoma (VX) characterized by the proliferation of foamy cells or xanthoma cell is a rare tumor in the oral cavity. A very rare case of VX occurring on the upper lip detected by immunohistochemical analysis was reported and related literatures were reviewed.<br>The patient was an 80-year-old female with a complaint of a painless tumor on her upper lip. The diameter was 2mm, and the surface had a granular appearance and yellow and partially red. The tumor was surgically resected, and proliferation of foamy cells in the lamina propria between rete ridges was histologically found. The pathological diagnosis was VX. Immunohistochemically, these foamy cells were positive for lysozyme and KP-1, weakly positive for α1-antitrypsin, and negative for S-100 protein.
