Abstract

Diffusion tensor MR imaging expresses the anisotropy of diffusion of water molecule in vivo. The diffusion of water along nerve fiberis is fast, and orthogonal diffusion to nerve fibers is very slow. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) tractography render the white matter fiber by tracking the diffusion anisotropy. I investigated agenesis of corpus callosum using DTI tractography. The subject of this study were three patients (10 years old man, 15 years old woman, 22 years old man) with agenesis of corpus callosum (with only the formation of genu corporis callosi), detected with MRI by chance. The course of callosal fibers and Probst's bundle were investigated using DTI tractography. The callosal fibers, which pass through a formed corpus callosum were distributed widely over both sides of the cerebrum. In the agenesis of corpus callosum, the currently formed callosal fibers may be compensating the function of the deficient callosal fibers. Part of fibers in lateral inferior Probst's bundle were corpus callosum, which were distributed over occipital lobe.
