Description
Is juridic judgment influenced by victim's stigmatic factors and social status ? People have the belief in a just world that good things happen to good people and bad things to bad people (Lerner, 1980). Two hypotheses in this study were predicted from this just world hypothesis. The first hypothesis was that the greater victim's stigmatic factors, the less positive attitude and the more negative attitude for victims even if they had no faults. The second hypothesis was that the offenders who injured low-status victims with stigmatic factors would receive more lenient treatment than those offenders who injured high-status victims without stigmatic factors. In this study, two experiments were conducted to test these two hypotheses. Results supported these two hypotheses, and were discussed in terms of the just world hypothesis and social stereotype
