Abstract
The influence of the trapped air on the water impact is studied when the heeled body enters into the water surface. The water surface and the body surface are modeled by a subsequence of circular hollows and the triangular prism, respectively. It is seen from numerical simulation that the peak value of the trapped air pressure becomes larger and the duration of the pressure becomes shorter as the heel angle increases, and that the impact force becomes larger as the wave height of the water surface decreases. Some numerical results demonstrate that the effect of the trapped air on the impact force of the model scale is larger than that of the full scale. It is understood that the averaged pressure decreases due to the three dimensional effect of the water surface, irrespective of the trapped air.
