抄録

Corrosion is said to be the most dominant factor which affects the physical life of ships. In this report, the effect of grooving corrosion in the vicinity of fillet welded joints on ultimate strength of hold frames of bulk carrier is investigated with elasto-plastic FE analysis. It has been shown that the reduction of ultimate strength of hold frames is not large when the depth and width of grooving is small. If the depth of grooving increases excessively, lateral torsional deformation would be observed as the collapse mode. The ultimate strength of hold frame subjected to the lateral pressure is affected by the thickness loss of the web plate due to general corrosion rather than the local grooving at the fillet welded joints between web and side shell plates.
