Abstract

A new pteropholid species, Hellinsia muraseae, is described based on specimens from Honshu to Nansei islands, Japan. The larvae of the new species fed on Melanthera species (Compositae) along the seacoast. Field observation at Hidaka-cho, Wakayama Prefecture, Honshu, revealed that the species is multivoltine without a diapause stage and passed the winter in the 2nd to 4th instar larval stadia, continuing their feeding activities.
