Hand motion capture is an important topic to understand the mechanism of the hand. Many studies about hand motion capture are using cameras or bending sensors. However, these methods can capture the limited action in the restricted environments. This study proposes a novel hand motion capture method without restrictions of usage environment and user action. The proposed method is based on the electrical contact resistance between the wrist skin and the electrode to measure the deformation of the wrist which is related to the hand motion. We fabricated the contact resistance measurement circuit consists of 16 electrodes. The output voltage corresponding to each contact resistance at 16 points was measured with the circuit by switching the channels connected to electrodes in a time-division manner. We investigated the relationship between the contact resistance and the finger joint angles to evaluate the proposed device. As a result, we confirmed that the output changed according to the validation of the joint angles. The output at some electrodes did not change due to the configuration of the device. Thus, the strategy to improve the measurement accuracy was confirmed.
