Description

The subspecific division of the Japanese populations of Neptis pryeri Butler is revised, and a new subspecies N. p. setoensis is described for the populations ranging on the relatively low-altitude areas around the Setonaikai Sea, to which N. p. iwasei Fujioka, 1998 has tentatively been applied. Analysis of the wing maculation is made for subspecies yodoei Fujioka, 1998, hamadai Fujioka, Minotani & Fukuda, 1999 and setoensis ssp. nov., and all the analyzed specimens of these subspecies are illustrated.
