Abstract

Manual for Abdominal Ultrasound in Cancer Screening and Health Checkups (new guideline) was evaluated in comparison with Guideline for Abdominal Ultrasound Cancer Screening (old guideline).<BR>Ultrasonographic findings of 7534 cases from June 2015 to May 2016 were categorized using the new and old guidelines. These cases were also recommended for ultrasonographic screening on the basis of the criteria of the new guideline. In the old guideline, category 3-5 cases were recommended for thorough examination or treatment. In new guideline, recommendation criterion D is necessary to receive thorough examination (D2) and to receive treatment (D1). The number of category 3-5 cases was 1570 (20.8%) in the old guideline and 992 (13.2%) in new guideline. In particular, the number of category 3 cases according to old guideline was high at 1278 (17.0%), but in new guideline, the number decreased to 701 (9.3%). In the new guideline, criteria D cases were only 348 cases (4.6%). In new guideline, recommendation criteria were added, and the number of category 3 cases, which are indicted for thorough examination or treatment, decreased. Although there remains a problem about the criteria for multiple liver hemangioma, we conclude that the new guideline is easy to use.
