Abstract
In order to confirm dynamic response characteristic of full-scale arch-type RC structure with three-layered absorbing system, falling-weight impact tests were conducted at real tunnel portal and three-dimensional elasto-plastic impact response analysis was also performed applying an equivalent tensile fractureenergy concept. Fromthisstudy thefollowing resultswereobtained. 1) Applying three-layered absorbing system, punching share failure may not be occurred and impact resistant performance can be remarkably improved. 2) Impact resistant performance of the tunnel portal with the absorbing system can be improved more than 13 times in input energy than that without absorbing system, and the real structure has possessed more thanthree times ultimate impact resistant capacity in input energy at design. 3) Three-dimensional elasto-plastic impact response analysis applying an equivalent tensile fracture energy concept for arch-type RC structure can be applicable by the level of maximum input energy at design.
