This study intended to find out the effects of loading positions, loading rates and shear reinforcement ratios on the dynamic shear failure behaviors of RC beams through rapid loading tests. In the rapid loading tests, RC beams were simply supported with a span of 1,200 mm and loaded at midspan or at the quarter point of the span. The test results revealed that while the failure modes of the RC beams loaded at midspan vary from brittle shear failure to ductile flexural failure with an increase in shear reinforcement ratio, the RC beams loaded at the quarter point of the span only fail in brittle shear despite an increase in shear reinforcement ratio. Finally, developed dynamic strut-and-tie model and dynamic modified field compression theory were applied to evaluate their dynamic shear resistance.
