Abstract

This study aims to clarify the effects of elective areas of home economics education in junior high schools on those in senior high schools. Three surveys were made in 1995. The first survey was done for 233 students in N senior high school, the second was for 681 students of 8 senior high schools and the third was for 78 senior high school home economics teachers. The results were as follows. 1.Most girls studied 'Clothing' and 'Child care', while few boys studied those elective areas of home economics education in junior high schools. 2.Most girls achieved the aims of study of elective areas of home economics education in junior high schools than the boys. 3.Whether studying 'Clothing' or not in junior high schools tends to decide girls' interest in 'Clothing' and boys' skills of 'Clothing'. 4.In order to cope with difference of degree on achievement among students, senior high school home economics teachers used simpler teaching materials than before. 5.Senior high school home economics teachers hoped that the curricula of junior high schools would be consistent to those in senior high schools.
