抄録

The purpose of this study is to clarify the actual states and philosophies of the revisions of vocational home economics education courses in senior high schools in the Chugoku and Shikoku Areas, with analyzing the Reports of all Prefectural Industrial Education Councils. The revisions of vocational home economics education courses have changed the direction from training for family life only, to training for occupation and/or family life. Several prefectures have increased the number of departments, with restructuring and establishing, which deal with social welfare, fashion design, food & nutrition and cooking. These departments work to train professional working people. Students can study expertise to acquire qualifications and pass proficiency tests. This program has been successful in training professional working peoples in vocational home economics education courses in senior high school in the Chugoku and Shikoku Areas. There is indeed a need to raise the social awareness of vocational home economics courses, development and improvement of those courses and training of professional teachers.
