Abstract
This study introduces hospital management models specialized for the creation of medical innovation, i.e., hospital management models specialized for innovation (hereinafter, innovation types), and reports on their modeling. The innovation types, which originated in Western countries, are hospital management models that constitute medical clusters. These innovative hospital management models are expected to become important structural supports for the emergence of the health care industry in the future. In Japan, since 2003, the innovation types originating from Western countries have been extensively examined and investigated as part of the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster Project, formerly the Knowledge Cluster Initiative and Industrial Cluster Project, and these models have begun to be developed and established. This study examined 1) the structure, 2) commercialization conditions, and 3) medical innovation schemes, etc. of the innovation types to attempt to sharpen the models. Furthermore, the study extracted and discussed strategic issues based on a representative innovation type in Japan, the Kobe Biomedical Innovation Cluster.
