説明

This review article describes multi-stabilities and multi-responses in multicomponent metal complexes as well as cyanide-bridged multinuclear clusters. Spin-crossover complexes are bistable systems, exhibiting spin transition between high- and low-spin states associating with relatively large structural changes, which can be switched by applying external stimuli. Multicomponent materials consisting of spin-crossover complexes and additional functional units are, therefore, expected to be multi-stable and multi-responsive systems. This review article first describes multi-component spin-crossover complexes exhibiting 1) magnetic bistability and single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformation induced by guest desorption, 2) switching of electric conductivities by thermal spin transition, 3) multiple bistability and tri-stability with dual spin-state conversions. The second topic concerns exploration of specific molecular functions in cyanide-bridged multinuclear complexes. The cyanide-bridged multinuclear complexes have flexible molecular and electronic structures, and we have developed a versatile synthetic method of structurally and electronically controlled cyanide-bridged multinuclear complexes with specific molecular functions. We present here 1) a tetranuclear molecular square exhibiting a multi-step spin transition, 2) an octanuclear molecular cube with multi-step redox behavior, 3) 1D chain exhibiting slow magnetic relaxations, 4) a series of Fe-Co heterometallic molecular squares showing controlled intramolecular electron transfers.
