Abstract

Patient: The patient was a 79-year-old male with the complaints of unstable maxillomandibular dentures and difficulty in mastication. Other than a poor denture fit and occlusion, mobility of the remaining teeth was noted. After basic periodontal treatment, a maxillary overdenture using crown and sleeve-copings, and a mandibular partial denture were inserted.
Discussion: It was considered that improvement of the crown-root ratio of the remaining teeth with mobility led to the protection of tooth roots and supporting tissue. It was followed by the recovery of a favorable occlusal relationship, and achievement of denture retention and stability.
Conclusion: For a case with a few remaining teeth with periodontal disease, a denture using a crown and sleeve-coping was applied. This retainer, which flexibly copes with changes of the oral condition and general condition with aging, helps to preserve the remaining teeth.
