Description
A numerical model for a simulation of unsaturated ground water flow in vertical is developed with a special attention to the strict formulation of the motion of a boundary between the saturated region and the unsaturated region: An iso-parametric element on T(time) -Z(space) plane is introduced so that the boundary is always coincident with a nodal point of finite element method. As a result, the numerical errors caused by the coexistence of saturated and unsaturated regions in one element is eliminated. The model produces a ground water flow field with high accuracy even with a space increment far lager than that of the existing models.
