Description
When 10 g cyclohexanone oxime dissolved in 4080 ml xylene was heated at 90°C for 2 hr under 100200 rpm stirring over 2040 g silica-alumina-phosphoric acid, ε-caprolactam was obtained in a quantitative yield. Other solid acid catalysts, such as silica-alumina, kieselguhr-phosphoric acid, and boron-phosphoric acid, were less effective and the yields ranged from 10 to 30%.
