Description

This paper describes a case of duodenal carcinoma probably arised from the heterotopic pancreas. A 68-year-old man was admitted to the hospital because of body weight loss. Laboratory test showed an elevation of serum CA19-9 level, 99U/ml. Gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a depressed lesion in the upper second portion of the duodenum. The biopsy revealed adenocarcinoma. Pancreatoduodenectomy was performed. Histologically it was tubular and partially papillary adenocarcinoma, 3.0×2.5cm in size, found mostly in the submucosa and muscularis propria. Pancreatic duct and Langerhans's islands were observed in a part of the lesion. Therefore, the patient was diagnosed as duodenal carcinoma arised from the heterotopic pancreas (Heinrich I type). To our knowledge, this patient was the third case reported in the Japanese literature.
