This study investigated the dietary behavior of participants for workplace nutritional education. We conducted a questionnaire survey at a nutritional education program presented by a company for their employees. The program had two groups : one was compulsory as a part of worker’s duties (a compulsory group, n=52), and the other was performed on a voluntary basis (a voluntary group, n=39). The percentage of participants who thought that their dietary habits needed to improve was 53.8% in the compulsory group and 35.1% in the voluntary group. Moreover, the rate of participants who wanted to improve their dietary habits was 48.1% in the compulsory group and 29.7% in the voluntary group.

The rate of people who didn’t eat breakfast was 23.1% in the compulsory group and 5.1% in the voluntary group. The rate of people who referenced food’s nutritional labeling when they chose dishes and who didn’t consume remaining broth after eating noodle was 17.3% and 63.5% in the compulsory group, and 17.9% and 79.5% in the voluntary group, respectively. There were significant differences in the rate of the participants who wanted to improve their dietary habits and who didn’t eat breakfast between the compulsory group and the voluntary group (p < 0.05, respectively)

In this study, we obtained useful data showing that there were differences in the eating behaviors of the participants depending on whether they belonged to the compulsory group or to the voluntary group. We also reported Japanese male workers’ attitude for their diet and dietary habits which were needed to teach in the nutritional education.
