Description

Integrated environmental impact assessment model that can reproduce and predict the physical, chemical and biological processes in coastal water with high accuracy was developed in the framework of a ‘land-estuary-inner bay-outer sea’ linkage system. The model was applied to assess environmental impacts of the construction of the new runway at the Haneda Airport on the surrounding water, which is located in the Tama River estuary. The simulation results were found to well reproduce the observed data on the flow and other various physical and water quality parameters. In addition, the salinity was found to decrease in the Tama River channel as one of the impacts of the new runway construction.
