Description

The result by a regional ocean model with domain of the West Part of the Japan sea was compared with the radial currents in the East Wakasa Bay measured by VHF ocean RADAR from Jan. to Feb. in 2010 to validate the model. The model result showed relatively high correlation coefficients and low root mean square error to the measurements except for the coastal area near the RADAR sites that the model could not resolve enough in space. The first principal component, representing 80 % of the variability of the simulations and measurements, of the measurements showed similar to that of the simulations. Moreover, the first principal component's score of the simulation agreed with that of the measurements. These results concluded that the model can reproduce the measurements in the Wakasa Bay. The simulations suggested that the positive or negative of the first principal component, the direction of the currents in the East Wasaka Bay, is afffected by the circulation in the Wakasa Bay related to the magnitude of the Tsushima current around the bay mouth.
