Abstract

Recently the works of It Jakuch have attracted wide attention with their bold composition and striking colors, althoughthe motifs are familiar subject, like chicken, fish and insects. Furthermore, his works are continuing to be morehighly valued over time. In this paper, the author analyzed the characteristics of color and motif in Ito Jakuch 's worksin relation to his way of life. Viewers cannot help opening their eyes wide in front of his works, even though they werecreated about 250 years ago. Here the author analyzed his early works "D shoku sai-e (The Colorful World of Living Beings)".And then his works are considered from the perspective of analytical psychology and Zen Buddhism. Jakuch 's "Dshoku sai-e" is not painted with gaudy colors, but the brilliant white on the dark background characterizes his pictures. The elaborately drawn pictures seem to reflect a profound spiritual awakening in Jakuch , who he was a devout ZenBuddhist, a seeker after truth. And in that sense he was found not an eccentric artist, but a genuine artist of his era.
