説明

The skinfold measurements and density determination were made on 22 young male Japanese in autumn. The skinfold thickness were measured at six sites i. e. upper arm, chest, back, abdomen, waist and thigh. Body dencity was estimated by water displacement. The mean values of mean skinfold thickness and body fat were 7.5 mm and 9.8 % respectively. The following prediction equation of body fat (%) from mean skinfold thickness (mm), body surface area (m2) and body weight (kg) was obtained.
The correlation coefficient of this equation was 0.78. The skinfold measurements were made on 15 young male residents of Okinawa (O group) who were born and raised in Okinawa and 16 young male residents of Okinawa who were born and raised in the Main Islands of Japan (M. I. group) in winter.
The skinfold thicknesses on O group (mean value 6.7 mm) were thinner than those on M. I. group (mean value 8.2 mm). The relative smaller distribution of subcutaneous fat in the extremities was observed in O group when they were compared with those in M. I. group. Thinner skinfold thickness and regional changes in the distribution of subcutaneous fat observed in O group might be considered as one of possible causes of superior heat tolerance of residents in subtropical zone. Body fat contents for residents in Okinawa were calculated by using the prediction equation. Mean value of body fat content for O group (9.2 %) was greater than that for M. I. group (10.2 %).
