Description

In order to explain the initiation mechanism of radical polymerization with a ternary system composed of 1-Cyclohexyl-5-ethyl barbituric acid (CEBA), Dilauryl dimethyl ammonium chloride, and Bis (acetylacetonato) copper (II), they were reacted with 5,5-Dimethyl-1-pyrroline-N-oxide (DMPO) in benzene solution, and then the ESR spin trapping technique was applied using DMPO as a spin trapping reagent. The 12-line spectrum was observed, and the hyperfine splitting constants of 13.3, 9.0, and 1.6G were assigned to nitrogen, β-proton, and γ-proton, respectively. Both the DMPO-OO・adduct and DMPO-H・adduct were detected as species of ternary initiative radicals by the abstraction process on the 5^<th>-hydrogen of CEBA in the presence of oxygen. The activation capacity of the DMPO-OO・adduct was higher than that of the DMPO-H・adduct.
