Description

This study aims to understand the influence of various conditions of drain layer on phreatic surface and stability of infiltration in river levee. In this study, we conducted large-scale model tests of levees with 1m-height against steady infiltration. We set three reinforcement conditions: earthen levee, standard-drain levee and LDR levee. We also conducted infiltration analysis to investigate the above influence. The results of the model test and numerical simulation revealed that: 1) the levee with drain along back slope reduced appreciably the phreatic surface compared to earthen levee, and 2) appropriate thickness of drain layer were discussed through numerical results.
