Abstract
Roundabouts have been focused as safer, ecological and economical grade intersection type, and the practical development of roundabouts is currently discussed in Japan.
As it is possible to pass through without any stopping if there is no vehicle at a circulating roadway in roundabouts, the fuel consumption may be decreased in idling or accelerating. However, the total CO2 emission based on practical driving tests has not been reported.
In this study, the amount of CO2 emission is estimated from driving tests at a test roundabout and existing signal intersection. As a result, it is shown that the total CO2 emission from the roundabout is decreased compared to the signal intersection.
