抄録

In the popular new work 1Q84 of Murakami Haruki, father has been presented as an important role. It was the first time that he described the role of father in such a profound way in his novel. Tengo's father was a returnee coming from Manchukuo, China after the 2nd World War. He worked for NHK as a low-class employee. He supported the family and brought up Tengo by collecting toll from door to door. However, Tengo had a sort of fantastic illusion from his childhood. "He watched a guy sucking his mother's breasts. And the guy was not his father."The sub-theme of the chapter of Tengo is his emotional changing process from hating to forgiving his father. When Murakami Haruki won the Jerusalem Prize, he gave a speech about his father, who had fought in China in the 2nd World War. His speech aroused the attention of the world. This thesis, by analysis of the novel 1Q84, Murakami Haruki discussed what father is and presented his complicated emotion of China.
