Abstract

A hole theory of liquid paraffines is developed to obtain a relationship between the critical point and the carbon number n of molecules. The theory of the zeroeth approximation for the lattice liquid composed of single-site holes and n-sites molecules leads us to the following results which coincide with the experimental data.
(i) The recipocal of the critical temperatura should increase linearly with is reasing the quantity, {(1/2n) + (1/√n)}.
(ii) The Kammelingh-Onnes constant should increase from 2.6 to 3.0 with increasing the carbon number. (The experimental values increase from 3.4 to 3.9)
(iii) The product of n and the critical pressure should be proportional to the critical temperature.
A linear relation holds too between the reciprocal of the boiling point and {(1/2n) + (1/√n)}, with good accuracy.
