Description
A rubber-covered roller has been one of the most popular parts for textile industriesand has been used for draft rollers, mangle rollers, etc. Recently, as spinning frames have been driven at higher speed, the moreexellent property of rubber-covered roller has been required.
We investigated theoretically and experi-mentally the apparent slippage phenomenabetween rubber-covered roller (driven roller) and metal roller (driving roller). The slip-page was expressed by the difference ofthe number of revolutions of the above tworollers in unit time.
We obtained the formula which showed the delay of driven roller against the driving roller. These delays were caused by the shearing force of the rubber and this delay was expressed by the products of the threeterms. The first term was related to the characteristics of the material, the second to the dimensions of the driving system andthe third to the driving conditions such astorque, pressure, etc.
Then we also obtained the formula whichshowed, in accordance with the decrease ofthe diameter of the driving roller, the leadof the driven roller against the driving rollerby a compressing load.In an actual operation, those two formulaeexist in a complicated form, so we must notsimply consider that the diameter ratio of a driving roller to a driven roller determines the standard number of a driven roller revolutions.
We ascertained by the results of someexperiments that the above two formulae were qualitatively accurate.
