Nowadays, considering from the large domestic consumption of phosphate rocks, the rocks should be taken as an important resource of fluorine, as shown in Table 1 and 2.
The studies were carried out to find the chemical nature of fluorine in phoshate rocks. As the result, two natural routes of fluorination were found in the rocks ; the first, “igneous apatite type”, the second, “phosphorite type” as shown in Fig. 2.
Although the rocks of “phosphorite type” show wide range of fluorine content comparing with those of “igneous apatite type”, and almost all the phosphorise contain fluorine in excess as shown in Table 3-6, and Fig. 1, and 4. These can be explained by supposing the presence of apatite excess in fluorine, expressed as Ca10 (PO4) 6F3, or (F3).
Reasonably, (F3) may be also formulate structurally
H1+ [Ca10 (PO4) 6F2] F1-, and F/P2O5≅0.137. The formula shows excess in one molecule of fluorine comparing with normal fluorapatite Ca10 (PO4) 6 F2, or (F2), F/P2O5≅0.089.
From these analytical data or correlation between F and P2O5 values, “F-Co-ordinate” was thought to be of practical importance in the phosphate relating industries.
By plotting the wt. % of F, P2O5 on the Co-ordinate, as shown in Fig. 3, F/P2O5 value will be found, and mixcrystals of apatite under the circumstance may be also supposed.
