Description
In order to analyse the grinding process of vibration milling, the breakage function is observed in vibration mill using a single size fraction samples, and the following results are obtained.
Selection function is a function of the particle size, the diameter of ball as grinding medium and the charge condition. The selection function has a maximum value in a certain particle size, and if the smaller diameter ball is used, the particle size also become smaller. The relation between the selection function and the charge condition is obtained as follows;
Se(J×U)-1/3
Where J is the fraction of medium filling in the mill, and U is the ratio of the apparent volume of material to the space volume between grinding medium.
The distribution function agrees with the following exponential distribution formula as a whole;
B(y, ymax)={1-e-α(y/ymax)}/(1-e-α)
Where α is the distribution factor, and a function of the particle size. It is expected that variations of α by the charge condition are effects of secondary fractures.
The rate of grinding is caluculated according to the resuluts of breakage function obtained by this experiments. And, from these caluculations, it is considered that the rate of grinding is practically not affected by the difference of ball diameter, but is in inversed proportion to U.
